Tour Overview

Three trips, run as one

Each leg is designed to stand on its own, but the sequence matters — the safari lands where the wildlife actually is at the time of year you travel, and Zanzibar comes last, when you'll actually want to stop moving.

Days 1–9: Mount Kilimanjaro
Machame Route

A day around Moshi to prepare, then seven days climbing through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point.

 Days 9–16 Northern Circuit Safari
Tarangire · Serengeti · Ngorongoro · Manyara

Tanzania's classic wildlife route, with your Serengeti nights positioned according to where the migration actually is when you travel.

Days 16–21 Zanzibar
Beach & Stone Town

Six nights on the Indian Ocean — white sand, Stone Town's old alleys, a spice farm, and as much or as little else as you want.

Highlights

Summit Africa's highest point, Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
Scramble up the famous Barranco Wall
Watch the wildebeest calve on the Ndutu plains
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater — lion, elephant, rhino, all in one bowl
Walk among Tarangire's baobabs and elephants
Spot tree-climbing lions at Lake Manyara
Sunrise balloon ride over the plains, if you fancy it
Get lost in Stone Town, then taste your way through a spice farm
Snorkel out at Mnemba Atoll
Six nights on Zanzibar to do absolutely nothing

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your 21-day journey through Tanzania, crafted for unforgettable moments at every stop.

Day 1

Arrival in Tanzania

Bed & Breakfast Hotel, Moshi
Met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred privately to your hotel in Moshi. Rest, hydrate, and take in your first views of the mountain from town.
Day 2

Materuni Waterfalls & Trek Preparation

Full board Hotel, Moshi
A half-day trip to Materuni Waterfalls and a traditional Chagga coffee experience with a local farming family. In the afternoon, your guide runs a full gear check and a climb briefing.
Day 3

Machame Gate → Machame Camp

Full board Machame Camp (tented)
The first day is all rainforest — thick, humid, and often muddy underfoot. It's a longer day than most people expect, so an early, steady pace pays off. Blue monkeys and colobus are common overhead. Distance: 11 km Time: 5–7 hrs Altitude: 1,800m → 3,000m
Day 4

Machame Camp → Shira Camp

Full board Shira Camp (tented)
Forest gives way to heath and moorland, and Kibo's summit comes into view for the first time. Altitude starts to make itself felt, so the pace is kept deliberately slow. Distance: 5 km Time: 4–5 hrs Altitude: 3,000m → 3,840m
Day 5

Shira Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

Full board Barranco Camp (tented)
The day that does most of the work for your acclimatisation: up to Lava Tower (4,630m), then back down to sleep in the Barranco Valley — "climb high, sleep low." Camp sits right below the Great Breach Wall. Distance: 10 km Time: 6–8 hrs Altitude: 3,840m → 4,630m → 3,900m
Day 6

Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

Full board Karanga Camp (tented)
The Barranco Wall comes first thing — a scramble rather than a technical climb, usually done within the hour. From the top, wide views back over the southern icefields, then a shorter, rolling walk into Karanga. Distance: 5 km Time: 4–5 hrs Altitude: 3,900m → 4,035m
Day 7

Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

Barafu Camp (tented) Full board
A short, rocky day. You'll reach Barafu ("Ice") Camp by early afternoon, giving time to rest, drink water, and eat properly before midnight's wake-up call. Distance: 4 km Time: 3–4 hrs Altitude: 4,035m → 4,673m
Day 8

Summit Day: Barafu → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp

Full board Mweka Camp (tented)
Departure around midnight, climbing by headlamp. Stella Point (5,756m) comes into view around sunrise, then it's another hour or so along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa. Descend to Barafu for a break, then continue to Mweka Camp. Emergency oxygen, a stretcher, and daily pulse-oximeter checks travel with the crew throughout — this day is fully supported. Distance: 17 km Time: 11–15 hrs Altitude: 4,673m → 5,895m → 3,100m
Day 9

Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Arusha

Breakfast & Lunch Hotel, Arusha
An easy walk down through the forest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your official park certificate. Tip the crew, then transfer by road to your hotel in Arusha for a well-earned shower and rest. Distance: 10 km Time: 3–4 hrs Altitude: 3,100m → 1,640m
Day 10

Tarangire National Park

Full board Safari lodge, Tarangire area
A full day among Tarangire's ancient baobabs and resident elephant herds, plus giraffe, zebra, buffalo, and strong birdlife — over 550 species recorded in the park.
Day 11

Onward to the Serengeti

Full board Safari lodge/camp, Serengeti
Drive through the Ngorongoro Highlands, past Karatu's coffee farms, with a stop at the crater rim viewpoint before continuing into the Serengeti ecosystem. Where exactly you're based — central Serengeti, or south around Ndutu — depends on where the wildebeest are that month.
Day 12

Full Day of Game Viewing

Full board Safari lodge/camp, Serengeti ·
A full day tracking lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, cheetah and hyena, alongside the resident plains game. Your guide reads the day's sightings and plans the route accordingly rather than following a fixed circuit.
Day 13

Second Day on the Plains — Optional Balloon Safari

Full Board Safari lodge/camp, Serengeti
A different part of the park today, for different terrain and sightings. This is also the day to add a sunrise hot-air balloon safari and bush breakfast, if you'd like it — booked in advance, at additional cost.
Day 14

Serengeti → Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Full board Lodge, crater rim
A final morning drive before heading to Ngorongoro. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim in the afternoon, with sweeping views down into the world's largest inactive, intact volcanic caldera.
Day 15

Ngorongoro Crater Descent & Lake Manyara

Full Board Lodge, Lake Manyara area
Descend 600m onto the crater floor for one of Africa's most reliable game drives — dense populations of lion, elephant, hippo, and one of the last strongholds of black rhino. Continue to Lake Manyara in the afternoon.
Day 16

Lake Manyara Game Drive → Flight to Zanzibar

Breakfast Beach resort, Zanzibar
A final morning drive at Lake Manyara, known for tree-climbing lions and its flamingo-lined shores. Transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar, where you're met and taken to your resort.
Day 17

Beach Leisure Day

Full Board Beach resort, Zanzibar
Settle in — swim, walk the beach, or make use of the resort. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and sunset dhow cruises can be arranged directly with your resort.
Day 18

Stone Town & Spice Tour

Full Board Beach resort, Zanzibar
A guided half-day through Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site — old alleyways, the fort, and local markets — followed by a working spice farm to see and taste cloves, vanilla and cardamom in their natural setting.
Day 19

Blue Safari / Mnemba Atoll (Optional)

Full Board Beach resort, Zanzibar
A dhow trip out to the Mnemba Atoll area, one of Zanzibar's best snorkeling sites, with time on a sandbank and a fresh seafood lunch. Bookable directly through us or your resort.
Day 20

Beach Relaxation
