Tour Overview
A 10-day Kilimanjaro expedition on the legendary Machame Route — built with an extra acclimatization day, certified guides, daily health monitoring, and a documented evacuation plan, because safety is our priority on every climb we run.
Safety Is Not an Add-On. It's the Foundation.
The Machame Route — often called the "Whiskey Route" — is one of the most scenic and rewarding paths on Kilimanjaro, crossing rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and the arctic summit zone. We run it over 10 days rather than the more common 9, adding one extra acclimatization day before the climb begins.
This package is run as a private group departure. Your itinerary, pace and crew are dedicated to your group only — you will not be combined with other travelers on the mountain.
Highlights
Guide for Every 3 Climbers
Your group travels with certified lead guides and assistant guides at a close ratio, so every climber gets individual attention from the gate to the summit.
Twice-Daily Health Checks
A pulse oximeter reading and a short symptom check are recorded for every climber each morning and evening, to catch early signs of altitude illness.
Supplemental Oxygen Carried
Emergency oxygen is carried by the guide team as standard equipment above 4,000m on every Machame departure, ready for immediate use if needed.
KINAPA & KPAP Standards
Guides hold national park licensing and wilderness first-aid training. Porter welfare follows Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project guidelines on loads, gear and pay.
Rapid Evacuation Protocol
A documented descent and rescue plan is in place at every camp, with a stretcher carried at all times and rescue fees built into your quotation — not an extra.
A Built-In Extra Day
Our 10-day itinerary includes a dedicated briefing and acclimatization day in Moshi before you even reach Machame Gate — a deliberate buffer most shorter itineraries skip

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
One of the most important acclimatization days. Hike steadily up to Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp — the classic "climb high, sleep low" strategy that significantly improves acclimatization and increases summit success rates. The dramatic scenery includes giant groundsels, volcanic rock formations and panoramic mountain views.
Day 7
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall — one of the most exciting and rewarding sections of the route. From the top, enjoy spectacular views of glaciers and valleys before continuing to Karanga Camp. The shorter trekking day provides valuable additional acclimatization and recovery time.
Day 8
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
A gradual ascent leads to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. Upon arrival, enjoy an early dinner and rest in preparation for the midnight summit push.
Day 9
Summit Day: Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Summit Day: Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
Around midnight, begin the final ascent under a sky full of stars. Reach Stella Point at sunrise before continuing to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa. Standing at 5,895 meters is the culmination of days of preparation and teamwork. After celebrating at the summit and taking photographs, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
Day 10
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
